Parkrose is not one of more distinguished neighborhoods compared to those near downtown Portland but, this neighborhood does receive notoriety due to the highly accessible freeways which border two sides of this neighborhood. Although this neighborhood does have plenty of franchise type restaurants, there are also some interesting hidden treasures peppered throughout with unique stores and intriguing local restaurants to offer a one of kind experience to both residents and visitors. Due to the close proximity and easy access to two major freeways, this neighborhood is not a stranger to hotel chains offering a comfortable place to stay for visitors. This is a laid back community that still offers plenty of Old Portland charm.
Argay Park is one of the Parkrose neighborhood parks offering many standard amenities such as paved and unpaved paths, softball and soccer field, basketball and tennis court, playground, picnic area, accessible play area and an off-leash dog area. Something that sets this park apart from others is the Ladybug Nature Walks, this is a nature walk directed for children between the ages of 0 to 6. The Ladybug Nature Walk gives these kids an opportunity to receive a guided tour through nature, exploring the outdoors with an expert to answer their questions. The Senn's Dairy Park is another local park that offers paved paths, a playground, accessible play area and a community garden.
Schools in Parkrose
Parkrose is one of the few neighborhoods that has its own school district. The Parkrose School District is able to provide educational opportunities to the residents of Parkrose. According to Greatschools.org, most of the schools in Parkrose received average and above average ratings. Sacramento Elementary School and Parkrose Middle School were all given a 6/10 rating, Prescott Elementary School was given a 5/10 rating, Parkrose High School, unfortunately fell just below average with a 4/10 rating.
