The southern border mostly consists of commercial properties with restaurants, bars, strip malls, coffee shops, while the northern border is mostly residential properties. Parks can be found on the eastern and western borders. The Lloyd Center shopping mall is nearby and the main commercial streets — N.E. Broadway, N.E. Fremont and N.E. Sandy — offer a variety of small boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops, where residents mingle.
Irvington Park is a mid-sized park consisting of 24 acres offering beautiful shade trees, fishing, baseball, softball, football and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, a running track, playground area, field house and a jogging path around the pond. Grant Park is a 19-acre park offering beautifully aged trees, an outdoor pool, play areas and equipment, track, baseball, softball and soccer fields, basketball and lighted tennis courts, walking paths and even a dedicated area for your dog to feel the freedom of leash-free play. The park was the setting for many scenes in the Ramona series of children’s books by Beverly Cleary and features sculptures of some of her characters, including, of course, Ramona.
