Located in North Portland, perched above the Willamette River is the Overlook neighborhood. The Willamette River and the I-5 corridor border the east and west of Overlook, while I-405 borders the southern part of OVerlook and to the north, north Ainsworth and Willamette Boulevard make up the northern border. Overlook is a charming neighborhood that has become a desirable neighborhood to reside. Although, there has been an influx in residents over the past few years, OVerlook has been able to keep it's charm that has been restored within the last 10 - 15 years. Restaurants, pubs and quant shops are all within walking distance encouraging residents and visitors to take time to slow down and enjoy their surroundings.
Enjoy the great outdoors at one of the parks in Overlook offering various options. Madrona Park is located on the north side of Overlook and offers an accessible play area, basketball court, unpaved paths and a playground. Beach Community Garden is also located to the north of Overlook promoting healthy eating, Patton Square Park and Community Garden located in the northeast section of Overlook also promotes healthy eating with homegrown food, a picnic area and playground for the kids to enjoy. Overlook Park has the most amenities to offer, an accessible picnic area, baseball field, basketball court, both paved and unpaved paths, picnic shelter and tables, soccer field, softball field, volleyball court, track playground and even off-leash dog area for your furry friend.
Travel is made easy with quick access to I-5, if travelling by car. TriMet offers public transportation with the MAX light rail service conveniently transporting passengers to downtown Portland and other nearby communities or taking the bus to get around town or to nearby areas. Even better, ride your bike to work or just to get around, Overlook is a very bike friendly neighborhood.
Schools in Overlook
The Portland Public School District serves the Overlook neighborhood with public education. While the schools offered to the Overlook residents are the top schools the district has to offer, they are not the worst either, some definitely could use some work to improve. According to Greatschools.org, Beach Elementary School and Jefferson High School earned the highest rating for schools in the Overlook neighborhood with a 4/10 rating, Trillium Charter School received a 3/10 rating and Ockley Green Middle School received a mere 1/10 rating. All of these schools received below average ratings; however a bonus to being a part of the Portland Public School District, students can attend any school within the district as long as there is room available.
