Living in The Commonwealth Park Neighborhood

An upper middle class neighborhood right off of Hwy 26. The centrifugal highlight of this community is a manmade lake, Commonwealth Lake. It covers 20 acres in a residential part of Beaverton. The lake was built by a developer in 1965 but now is part of the Tualatin Parks and Recreation.  The lake captures the waters of Johnson Creek, which flows from the West Hills and eventually joins the Tualatin River at Hillsboro and is stocked with trout and has visiting waterfowl. Commonwealth is a laid back suburb of Portland. Very conveniently close to downtown for commuters and neighbors the Nike campus.

Schools: Barnes Elementary School, Meadows Park Middle School, Cedar Park Middle School, Aloha High School

Parks: Commonwealth Lake Park, Peppertree Park, Foothills Park

Shopping: Fred Meyer off of NW 185th Ave

Living in Commonwealth Park

The Commonwealth Park Neighborhood is only about fifteen to twenty minutes from Downtown Portland which is only one of the desireable qualities it offers. Conveniently, Commonwealth Park and nearby communities offers plenty of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and parks to the residents of Commonwealth Park.  Being so close to downtown Portland, anything that can't be found in  Commonwealth Park is within close reach. The Commonwealth Park neighborhood is located right off of Hwy 26 providing easy access to neighboring towns and downtown Portland. 

There are plenty of exceptional parks surrounding the Commonwealth Park neighborhood but, the highlight of Commonwealth Park is the man-made lake, Commonwealth Lake. Commonwealth Park attracts anglers for trout fishing, bird watchers have the opportunity to catch sight of the Great Blue Heron, Cedar Waxwings, Green Heron and waterfowl and hikers, bikers and walkers have plenty of paved and flat trails for exploring and easy access around the lake. All of this right there in the Commonwealth Park neighborhood. 

Many homes are within walking distance from one of two light rail stations conveniently making transportation quick and convenient without all the headaches of traffic congestion. The TriMET also offers several bus lines that will transport residents around Commonwealth Park and surrounding areas. If travelling by car nearby Route 26, 217 or I-5 are easily accessible. For air travel, the Portland International Airport is only about 30 minutes away from the Commonwealth Park neighborhood. 

Schools in Commonwealth Park 

The Beaverton School District serves the Commonwealth Park neighborhood with public education. The schools offered to the Commonwealth Park community could use some work but, they are not terrible either. According to, Cedar Park Middle School was given a 7/10 rating, Meadow Park Middle School was given a 6/10 rating, Aloha High School High School and Barnes Elementary School were given a below average rating 3/10. This is normal for most districts to have a few schools that need some work, many of them on the cusp of achieving a higher rating. 

Homes in Commonwealth Park

The homes in Commonwealth Park are on the affordable side for the state of Oregon, but they are still pretty expensive and overall high for the national home prices. Most homes are mid-sized to larger homes with three to four bedrooms single family homes and townhomes. Commonwealth Park attracts home buyers for many reasons, location is a big reason but, also the community of parks and family entertainment making this an excellent place to raise a family.
