Holiday lights are a wonderful tradition that dates back to the middle of the 17th Century when small candles were attached to trees using wax. Portland has a long standing tradition with Christmas lights starting with Peacock Lane in the 1920’s. The Christmas Ship Display is the oldest in the country with a 53-year history. On Saturday, October 20th, approximately 1,500 volunteers will converge on nearly 50 project sites in Washington County and East Multnomah County. Volunteers will plant thousands of native plants and bulbs, remove litter and graffiti, enhance school grounds, and work to restore wetlands and streams.
