WHO needs Adult Foster Care?
- Adults (age 18 and older) who cannot live alone or with their natural families due to risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation.
- Adults without families of their own, or have families that are unable to care for them.
- Handicapped or elderly victims of abuse, neglect or exploitation. 4) Adults that can live safely in a normal family home setting, but may require assistance or supervision with dressing, feeding, hygiene or other daily life activities.

There are over one thousand Adult Foster Care Homes in the Portland Metro region. The cost to live in an Adult Foster Care Home typically ranges from $1,200 to $4,500 a month with an average of $2,100. This cost includes room, board and assistance in all activities of daily living. A resident of a home can either have a shared or private room depending on the home. The atmosphere ranges from home to home, but usually are very family like. Some are licensed to provide complete nursing care while others provide minimal care. There are also homes that will specialize in providing care—ventilator homes, Alzheimer’s, mentally ill, etc. Adult Foster homes are inspected, monitored and licensed by the Seniors and People with Disabilities Division or by the local Area Agency on Aging.
