Hotel Ideas In Portland Oregon

Posted on: July 07, 2007

I talk to many PortlandRealEstate.com visitors who are thinking about moving to Portland from all over the United States; some haven’t even traveled to our fair city, yet. I thought our readers would enjoy a quick rundown on where to stay that fits their needs and budget.

Luxurious Hotels

Portland has some beautiful hotels; most are centrally located downtown where visitors don’t even need to rent a car to get around. Those who fly in can take our lightrail system, MAX, from the airport to downtown. From downtown you can go almost anywhere on Portland’s extensive transit system called TriMet. Here are a list of my favorite fancy hotel picks:

The Weston

The Benson

Marriott Courtyard Portland Downtown/Lloyd Center, this is very close to downtown and on the MAX line.

The Embassy Suites Downtown

The Heathman

Four Points by Sheraton Downtown

The Governor

The Hilton Executive Tower

The Avalon Hotel and Spa. This one is a little outside of Downtown, but accessible by hotel shuttle, car, or bus. Very nicely set beside the Willamette River in a quiet location.

Hotel Lucia

The Paramount

Marriott Downtown Waterfront

Marriott Residence Inn Downtown/Riverplace

Still Beautiful Portland, But Better Price

If you are visiting Portland on a budget, or want something more eclectic, try these digs (you can read reviews on these hotels onYelp.com):

The Kennedy School This is a little farther out; it is best to have a car if you plan to stay here. It is located in the Concordia neighborhood, which is close to the historic and beautiful Alameda neighborhood. The Kennedy school is a renovated elementary school that has been converted to a hotel, microbrewery, bar, and restaurant; amenities include beautiful gardens, live music, a lounge-type movie theater (serves beer and pizza), and a soaking pool. The web page has a great description of the history of this building and neighborhood. This is at least worth a click and hopefully a visit when you are in town.

The Mark Spencer in the Pearl District.

Motel 8 on Holman Road close to the airport.

Motel 6 in North Portland (NoPo) by Portland Meadows.

Jupiter Motel in NE, but walking distance to downtown and the convention center.

The Palms Motel in NoPo on Interstate Ave. You can get here via the MAX system.

The Ace in downtown.

Shilo Inn – Rose Garden

The Portland Hawthorne Hostel is accessible by bus from downtown.

That is my extensive list of digs. You can find more Portland Hotels on the Portland Business Alliance website. Did I miss one that you recommend? Please comment below and tell everyone about it.
