Chataqua Parade and Family Festival in Gladstone, OR 2007
Posted on: May 29, 2007

Annually, there is a Chautaqua Parade and Festival the first week in August; and it is fun for the whole family. This year the parade is on Saturday, August 5, 2007. The parade is only a couple of hours, but its loads of fun for the kids. The streets are wide with plenty of room for chairs and great viewing. There are local business floats, marching bands, dance teams, Scouts, and just about anybody else who wants to be in the parade. It is an informal and stress-free environment; people seem to feel safe and right at home with each other. My kids love it.
There are lots of freebies for the children and adults, too. Children of all ages take home bags of candy and toys. One year, I got a hot piece of pizza and enough free burger coupons my whole family went to dinner that night!
Also during the first week of August, is the festival at Max Patterson Park. It has rides for the children, shopping booths, and all the yummy fair foods we love. At night, the park has a beer garden and live music with an area to dance. It’s a great way to cool off in the evening.
These Chautaqua festivals date back to the late 1800’s. Just like back then, family and friends travel to Gladstone to join the locals for a week of festivities and the parade! Family values and fun are at the heart of Gladstone, OR.
