Are you a Lone Wolf, or a Lemming around your money beliefs?

I write about a money question or story each month; this month’s money question is, “How do you go about raising the level of your thinking about money when everyone around you seems duty-bound to keep you “grounded” in their level of thinking?”
It’s always challenging to go against the pack, to swim against the current. We are humans, after all; we are social creatures who want to belong. And besides that issue, there is another process at work when we step away from the norm. We are doing it differently, we are risking. Watching someone else take a risk makes most people nervous. It’s a very strong reminder that the ONLY reason we stay where we are is because we choose not to go someplace different. What I mean is that when you start behaving differently toward your money, you shine a light on the money behavior of others. You actually show them that the reason they behave in a certain way towards their money is because they choose to.
If you want to change your money beliefs you have to think differently about your money. The people around you will always try to bring you back to their way of thinking; it’s a natural thing to do. My best suggestion is to not talk about or share your money perspectives with people who hold the “old” views. Seek out people who share the views and beliefs that you want. Give yourself an opportunity to really incorporate your new views. The old beliefs and views consistently produced certain results. Do you really know what the new results are going to be? Have you given yourself a clear chance? Additionally, you raise your level of thinking by using all your resources to focus on the new way of thinking. Reinforce, focus, and be diligent. Use your words, actions, intentions consistently. Work on your conscious mind…and even your subconscious. Your subconscious is most accessible when you first wake up, when you are falling asleep and when you are startled. The next time you drop something on your toe instead of swearing, try saying something like “Money supports me in many ways.” If you want another idea of how to reach your subconscious, check out my new money meditation tape.
Comment with any money belief oriented questions you have. If there is some issue that keeps nagging you, some bit that you would like my opinion about, tell me about it in the comment section. What I’m looking for are those things that stump you, and keep you from moving forward. I won’t give you advice about which stocks to buy, or when to sell your house…but anything that is in the realm of money beliefs, habits and attitudes, I’ll be happy to address. And, as always, your identity may remain confidential if you wish.
