Sunnyside
The Sunnyside neighborhood is bordered by the Buckman, Kerns, Laurelhurst, Center, Mount Tabor, and Richmond neighborhoods.
Sunnyside offers plenty of nightlife, great restaurants and places to hang out, as well as, a safe community with a progressive attitude and fantastic schools. This makes Sunnyside a great place to live whether you are single or raising a family.
Situated next to Hawthorne Blvd and Belmont Street, residents are close to Portland’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment. Geona, a citywide favorite Italian restaurant is located here at 2832 SE Belmont Street.
The Sunnyside Piazza is located one block away from the restaurants and cafes along the popular transportation corridor and features a giant sunflower street mural, community kiosk, and an art wall created by residents and local artists who used sustainable building techniques. Residents designed and developed this gathering space to reinforce a positive sense of community and to express their culture. Locals walk throughout the Piazza to visit the kiosk, to run into friends, or simply to enjoy the area. The intersection is open to cars, except during community block parties.
Most of the homes in the Sunnyside area are older vintage styles including, Bungalows, Four-squares, and Victorians. The area’s housing is changing somewhat, due to newer condo developments in the area.
