Hawthorne District

The Hawthorne District, located in Southeast Portland, runs along Hawthorne Avenue from about 11th Ave. to 55th Avenue. Hawthorne is made up of the Buckman, Hosford-Abernathy, Mt. Tabor, Richmond, and Sunnyside neighborhoods.

The heart of the Hawthorne District runs along S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. between 30th and 42nd Avenues. It is known for its young, liberal residents and European feel. Residents are attracted by the vintage homes and apartments, as well as, locally owned shops, many of which still have that 70s vibe.

While Hawthorne tends to be a bit more laid back and casual than its NW counterparts, the residents are serious about maintaining the eclectic lifestyle and natural beauty of the parks, homes, and locally owned shops and restaurants.

One of the best spots to take in a movie is the Baghdad Theater/Pub, a historic venue that was bought and renovated by the McMenamin brothers who kept the historic feel of the building.

This area features older full of charm and character, East Portland homes from Craftsman Bungalows to Old Portland Foursquare styles with the occasional Victorian mixed in.
